Potter County has some of the nation's best fishing. stocking over 151,000 fish each year. For the fly fisherman you will find the native brookies quite a challenge. There are over 800 miles of fishable trout streams in Potter County. Streams near the Lodge and Cabins are: Little and Big Kettle Creeks, Cross Fork Creek, Right and Left Branch of the Young Woman's Creek, Slate and Cedar Run, Sinnemahoning and Pine Creek, to name a few. ![]() If it's wildlife you're looking for and you can't find it within the 265,000 acres of the Susquehannock State Forest then just over the mountain are the Sproul, Tioga, Tiadaghton and Wyoming State Forests with 750,000 more acres of prime real estate for abundant wildlife. If hiking is the name of your game we have over 650 miles of hiking trail, one of which is the 85 mile loop of the Susquehannock Trail which passes through some of the most breathtaking country imaginable. And your eyes will not believe the size (three to four feet in diameter) of the virgin timber located in the Hammersley Wilderness Area. And, a short drive away you can explore the ruins of the Austin dam. The Dam was used to supply water to the Bayless Pulp and Paper Company. The concrete structure stood 50 feet high and was 350 feet long and held over 250,000,000 gallons of water. It broke the morning of September 30, 1911 killing 89 people and damaging over $14,000,000 in property. This site was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1989. |
